Anticipated bid placement on Delcampe

Hi,

Since yesterday, a few Delcampe bids were placed much earlier than planned (sometimes one hour too early) yesterday afternoon and also this morning (Brussels time).

This was caused by a bug on Delcampe. In some circumstances, the time displayed on the bid confirmation screen is off by one hour. Snippy's uses that information to synchronize its sniper, which explains the issue.

We just updated our sniper to take that problem into account, and we are confident that the update will fix the issue. We will keep a eye on the situation to make sure that the situation is back to normal.

We are very sorry for the inconvenience caused. Feel free to contact us should you have any inquiry regarding this issue.

Happy bidding

Improvements are on the way

Dear Snippy's users,

As you may have noticed, our website is experiencing annoying slowdowns at peak hours. These slowdowns imply a poor reactivity of our webpages, or even login issues.

The causes of these issues have been identified. At first, we tried to improve the situation by patching our current system, but the issue is actually structural. Our current architecture would not be stable enough in the long run.

This is why we took the tough decision to quit working on improving our current system, and to focus on building a new one, almost from scratch. This decision was tough because such a strategy does not provide any immediate solution for the immediate problem. However, it ensures that our website will become and remain faster and more stable earlier. This work will also allow us to develop and release new features more efficiently, such as targeting new auction sites, or improving our Mission control page.

Since that decision was taken, a considerable amount of work has been accomplished. For instance, our snipers have been completely re-written and improved. Our bid placement reliability and accuracy have improved dramatically since the new snipers were quietly put in operation.

Our efforts now focus on rebuilding our website. The new website will essentially look similar to the current one, but it will be faster and more stable.

To date, the public area of the website has been almost completely re-built. We will now move on to the 'private' area (i.e. the 'My Account' page and the Mission control center).

In terms of schedule, our current aim is to finish the re-development by the end of this month. Then will come the time of deployment and testing before we can make the new architecture public and say farewell to the current one. We really hope to be able to complete this transition in January 2011, that is to say in a month or so. The actual date will depend on the results of preliminary testings.

To make it short, this post is mostly to acknowledge that our website currently has issues, and to let you know that we take this issues very seriously. We are working very hard on solving these problems as soon as possible. We thank you in advance for your patience and your comprehension.

Happy bidding,
The Snippy's team

Bids history temporarily disabled

Dear users,

As some of you may have noticed, Snippy's website has been quite slow at peak hours recently. This does not affect the bid placement - our success rate and accuracy have never been so high. However, many pages of the website are slow to respond from time to time.

There are multiple technical reasons for this. They have been identified, and we are actively working on finding solutions. However, most of the solutions cannot be put in place over night, and we will need time to iron out those issues permanently.

In the meantime, in order to make our website more responsive, we decided to partially disable your bids history. From now on, all the missions that you registered before 2010 will be unaccessible. We believe that this measure alone will really help in bringing back some responsiveness to Snippy's website. To be clear, your bids history is not lost or deleted. It is just temporarily not accessible.

We are very sorry for the inconvenience caused. We will do everything in our power to restore all the website functionalities as soon as possible. We thank you in advance for your patience and your comprehension.

Best regards,
The Snippy's team

Occasionally slow website

Our web site may become very slow or even totally unresponsive for short periods of time. If you cannot browse our website normally, please give it a try a few moments later.

Our technical team has been alerted and is investigating the cause.

Please note that our sniper is not located on the same servers as our website. Therefore, bid placement should remain fully operational.

We are really sorry for the inconvenience this problem will cause. We thank you in advance for your kind understanding.

Best regards,
The Snippy's team

sniper and website issues last night

Dear Snippy's users,

Snippy's main server has had network issues over the last hours. Our hosting service provider is alerted about this problem and is working on a resolution.

As a consequence of this situation, you may have experienced problems browsing Snippy's website or connecting to your Snippy's account.

On the sniper front, a few "Bid placed after the end of the sale" mail reports have been sent out. Fortunately, most of them were inaccurate. Snippy's is pessimistic by nature. When it is unsure about a mission outcome, it always assumes the worst. These inaccuracies have been checked and manually corrected, so that the right outcome should appear in your mission control center.

We are very sorry for the inconvenience caused by this technical problem. We thank you in advance for your understanding and your patience while these issues are being worked on.

Best regards,
The Snippy's team

Delcampe issues 3

The saga continues...

We now have more information about what actually happened yesterday.

Delcampe put in place a new secured connexion process. We quickly adapted Snippy's to this new connexion process. However, the Delcampe team must have decided that this enhancement was not quite ready for the show and later switched back to the previous connexion process. By the time we modified Snippy's again, quite a few missions failed because Snippy's could not connect properly to the bidder accounts.

Snippy's works correctly at this time. However, these changes on the Delcampe site seem to indicate that more changes and instabilities are to be expected soon. We will do our best to react as fast as we can, and to keep Snippy's compatible. Because of this situation, we cannot guarantee the stability and safety of your bid placements until things have settled down on the Delcampe site, so prudence is advised.

We count on your patience and on your kind understanding. Feel free to contact us should you need further information about the situation.

Best regards,
The Snippy's team

Delcampe issues 2

Dear all,

After further investigation, it turned out that most of the problems that Snippy's has had with Delcampe over the last few hours are caused by some big changes on the Delcampe website. The account login process and the overall cookies management has been changed dramatically on their site. This led to major issues with our sniper, and several missions were missed because of this.

We are actively working on resolving these issues as quick as humanely possible. We will keep posting here about the evolutions of this work.

Please note that these problems have absolutely no influence on the eBay sniper, which is still working perfectly well.

We thank you in advance for your patience and your understanding.

Best regards,
The Snippy's team
